Get into Food
So Simple - Get into Fitness Breakfast
1/2 cup dry oatmeal
2 T. wheat germ
1 t. flax oil
1 t. powdered cinnamon
1 t. raw honey

Cook oatmeal as directed on package (try not to use the instant but if you have to use 1 packet).  After oatmeal is cooked, remove from heat or microwave and blend in the wheat germ, flax oil and honey.

This breakfast is not only a great pre-workout meal, but also a definite way start your day with good energy from good & real food.

Mary's Dairy-free Frozen Berry Protein Blast
1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (or your favorite flavor)
1/4 c ice
1/4 c water
1/2 c frozen mixed berries
1 T. natural peanut butter (no sugar added)
Sweetener:  either 1 packet Splenda, 1 t. agave or honey, depending on your personal preference

Mix in blender for a frozen, delicious post workout treat!  It's surprisingly delicious!

By skipping the dairy in most frozen treats you'll avoid the belly ache and feel better about yourself.

Tip:  I use the flat blade in my Magic Bullet and it leaves perfect little frozen berries throughout.

Homemade Potato Chips
Every now and then I get the crunchy munchies!  Come on, you know what I mean.  So, if you too are looking for a crunchy snack, just make your own.  Although, it's tempting to buy a bag of 'fat free' chips, keep in mind that even some of the baked or fat free chips you'll find in the grocery store are loaded with sugar or other bad oils.  Olestra? No, thanks.  Does it gives you a belly ache too?

Ingredients:
Potatoes (sweet, purple, white, any kind that you like)
Kosher salt *

Supplies:
Potato peeler (try to find one with a long peeler so you can make full size chips)
Non-stick baking sheet (I like to use stoneware because of it's natural nonstick surface and the heat distribution)

Directions:  It's really simple actually and there is no need to add oils.  You should get your daily dose of healthy fat intake elsewhere.  Wash and peel your potatoes (if you prefer you can leave the skins on).  Cut the potato in half lenghwise and use the flat side as your starting point to make chips.  Using the potato peeler start peeling on the flat side and watch your potato peel into perfect little chips-to-be.   Lay the chips flat on your baking sheet, sprinkle with a bit of Kosher salt.  Pop them into the oven on broil for 15 minutes or until the chips are crispy.

* Once you get the hang of making your own chips, you can make all sorts of flavors.  Some ideas are: salt & black pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, how about cinnamon on your sweet potato for a bit of dessert?

This might be a bit time consuming but you'll love them and so will the kids.
